Nike SB dunks were first released to the public in 2002, designed by Peter Moore. In order to help the Nike SB dunks gain popularity, Nike decided to team up with Supreme. After that partnership, Nike collaborated with skateboarding athletes such as, Danny Supa, Reese Forces and Richard Mulder. The brand has grown immensely and Nike has even collaborated with basketball players such as Kyrie Irving, and pop culture celebrities such as Travis Scott. Nike SB Dunk Low “What The P-Rod”
P-Rod is code for Paul Rodriguez, a legend in the skateboarding community. Nike SB designed these in honor of Paul, celebrating their lifelong partnership. Paul signed with Nike in 2005 and they have gone to release a bunch of signature shoes with the brand. In total, Paul has 10 signatures shoes in his name. Nike took a different approach towards this collabo, they mashed up most of Paul’s previous pro models into one shoe, making it attention grabbing, and different.
Stingwater x Nike SB Dunk Low “Magic Mushroom”
Daniel Kim, the owner of Stingwater, collaborated with Nike. However, it was an unexpected collabo and Nike was not much of a fan of Daniel Kim. This is simply because they felt he was too old to be a designer. Kim worked for Nike but only as a Sales rep, but his passion was always designing. After a little while, he started designing, took it more seriously and he came up with the design of Magic Mushroom. The sneaker is a design of amanita muscaria mushrooms, the tongue of the sneaker has a pocket where you can stash small items in.
Carpet Company x Nike SB Dunk High
Brothers Ayman and Osama Abdeldayem own the Carpet Company. They are known for their creativity and out of the box thinking. The Carpert Company x SB Dunk’s midsole is yellow and just under the shoe, the Carpet Company’s logo is seen. In addition, a cartoon drawing is visibly embroidered on the shoes. Also, the Egyptian brothers also relay hidden quotes on the heel of the sneakers. On the back of the sneaker, there are words that are embroidered there that say, “BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE HABIBIS AT CARPET COMPANY”.
Nike SB Dunk Low Travis Scott
Travis Scott is the first musician to collaborate with Nike SB Dunk. Travis Scott is a well-known and influential pop culture artist, so when he collaborated up with Nike SB, they created a best-selling shoe. These sneakers gained a lot of popularity and were successful in the market. Travis was always a fan on Nike SB Dunks; he has been spotted wearing some of the rarest Nike SB Dunks. One can say that the collaboration was inevitable.
Nike SB Dunks High Reverse Skunk (Specialise Box)
Todd Bratrud is one impressive designer; he has given us some of the best SB dunks of all times. The sneaker was first released exclusively in Minneapolis, celebrating the 4/20 and that is why only 420 pairs were produced. The Reverse Skunk is said to be the greatest colourway of SB dunks Todd has ever produced. It is predominantly purple suede, with a green outsole. The sneakers are very limited, they are even numbered through 420 on the lower heel of the shoe, for instance, 234/420.
Nike SB Dunks Low Strangelove
These sneakers are one of the best Nike SB Dunks in history. No wonder they are in our top 10 best Nike SB Dunks. They were debuted right before Valentine’s Day, in a pink box. They feature pink and red suede, with a white midsole and a literal heart on the lower side heel of the shoe. Todd Bratrud and Sean Cliver designed these shoes.
Dunk Low Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Dunky
These were the biggest release of 2020, Nike collaborated with an ice cream company. These shoes first sold for $100, and they sold out, soon after they were trading for $1,609 on the aftermarket. The shoe is very limited. The features of the shoe resemble the packaging of Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream carton. It is a very eye-catching design; it is colourful, playful, and fun. Although it wasn’t expected to do as well as it did in the market, the shoe now trades for almost $1,600. In conclusion, we must say this is one of our personal favorites. That is why it has made it into our top 10 best Nike SB Dunks so far.
Nike SB Dunk Low Pro “Shadow”
The s Nike SB Dunk Low Pro “Shadow” debuted in January 2020. The Jordan Brand inspired these sneakers. The colourways are very similar to the ones of the Air Jordan 11s. The sneakers are a combination of suede and leather, the upper is black, a few parts of the shoe are grey, including the Nike tick, the front of the shoe, the shoelaces and the outsole. The midsole is white. The shoe is quite comfortable, thanks to the Zoom Air placed in the insole. This, however, is another SB Dunk that has sold out in most retailers.
Nike SB Dunk Low Supreme Stars Mean Green
These sneakers were first released in March 2021, the design was inspired by the 2003 Nike SB Dunk High Supreme. This sneaker features light green and white colourway, crocodile skin leather and metallic golden stars, with black shoelaces. The midsole is in white, whilst the rubber outsole is in light green. They undoubtedly “pop” through one’s eye.
Nike SB Dunk Mid Griffey
Inspired by the 1996 Air Griffey Max 1 Freshwater. These sneakers were originally designed for the Baseball Hall of Fame legend, George Kenneth Griffey Jr, to honor and celebrate him. Griffey was known as “The Kid”, because he became a G.O.A.T at the age of twenty-two. He attained thirteen All Star Game selections, ten Gold glove Awards and seven Silver Slugger Awards throughout his time on the field. Nike went a different direction with this collaboration, completely steering the focus away from skateboarding. Griffey had a huge impact on sports as a whole, and that is why Nike felt the need to collaborate up with him. The shoe features black, blue and white colourways. In addition, the number 58 on the strap represents Griffey’s baseball card number. Despite Griffey retiring in 2016, he still has a positive impact on society and sports. Also, he gives motivational speeches.
