When we talk of wardrobe staples, Nike Air Force 1 definitely makes the list. The white version of these classic kicks have made our list twice on top 10 sneakers for both men and women. However, Nike is best known for offering fun twists to the classic Air Force 1 which suits any personality. This time around, they have the UV range that change colours when exposed to UV rays. Nike offers two versions of the Air Force 1 dubbed ‘UV Reactive’. One that offers a minimalist change that still maintains its simplicity and the second version explodes in colour. Think of it as a shoe that changes its mood, indoors and outdoors. Indoors, the colour changes back but outdoors in sunlight, the personality of the shoe (colour) pops out. (Sort of like us humans)
Air Force 1 Low with a reactive swoosh
At first glance, you see a crisp white mid-sole with an ice-blue out-sole, a touch of blue on the lace deubre* to match the out-sole, but there are key changes happen when you step into sunlight; you start to notice that the Swoosh changes from white to ice blue and the heel panel transforms to a lively pink and changes back to ‘normal’ when indoors. The black Air Force 1 branding remains consistent throughout the change. Cool right? This pair gives it some flair without overpowering the classic design of the Air Force 1 as we know it.
Air Force Low LX UV Reactive
If you are looking for more flair with bolder colours, then the second version of the Air Force 1 UV Reactive is for you. Similar to the first version, you first see an all-white pair, with ice-blue outsoles and a lace deubre to match. Upon closer glance, you will notice a light pink at the heel of the shoe. Once you step outside, the real fun begins. Just like Optimus Prime or should we say Air Force Prime, the colours start to pop; light blue toe, purple Swoosh, golden yellow toe box and side paneling, powder blue heel panel and a fuchsia heel. Definitely cool!
This pair are definitely for the ones with a more bolder colour palette or looking for fun colours to add to an outfit. Similar to its counterpart, once indoors, the colour transforms back to its original look. Both pairs come with a hang-tag—a rubberized ice blue Swoosh and a circular tag showing how the colour change works. Nike is set to release these on September 17th and are priced at $120 USD.
With these kicks, Nike is definitely challenging sneakers as we know them. We’re on the lookout to see if other versions of this sneaker will be offered, perhaps different colours from these as well. Let’s wait and see…
